Module Description

In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuturies, Jesus became a recurrent motif in the works of many Jewish poets and authors. During this course, we will read some of these texts together to understand why Jewish writers and readers found Jesus to be such an appealing figure through whom to express their quintessentially Jewish experiences of life amidst growing anti-Semitism.

Freya Dasgupta, a PhD candidate at Dublin City University, is currently finishing her doctoral thesis which explores Jewish-Christian reconciliation in the novels of Yiddish author Sholem Asch. She has studied Islam, Judaism, Christianity, and English Literature; worked as a journalist; enjoys the company of books and animals; finds good food deeply congenial.
