Module Description

What is sometimes described as ‘Northern Renaissance Art’ includes the work of the great artists: Van Eyck, Van der Weyden, Bosch, and later, of Rembrandt and Rubens. We will look at their work and that of many other celebrated artists. The period of the 15th to the 17th century was a time of great political and religious turmoil in the Netherlands. We will explore how this was reflected in art, with particular emphasis on religious art, in its varied and revealing expressions. Gallery visit included.

BA (UCD) in Art History, English and History, MA in Art History (UCD). He has many years experience of teaching Art History in third level and adult education.
