Module Description

This course explores the search for the soul by Gabriel Marcel and John Cottingham; it seeks certainty from Mary Midgley; it examines time for St. Augustine and Ludwig Wittgenstein and provides a definition of philosophy by Emmanuel Levinas and explores Sigmund Freud’s views on the origin of religion. No prior knowledge of philosophy is necessary and those present are encouraged to discuss their views, as part of the learning process.

Patrick Quinn, PhD, has taught in third-level and adult education for more than 30 years with extensive publications in philosophy and education and a series of programmes on RTÉ radio and television.
